Case study: logistics company with a driver app

Scenario

A logistics company with 15 delivery drivers needed a mobile app to manage deliveries in real time. Their management system was a web application without an API, and drivers recorded deliveries on paper.

Challenge

Create a REST API connecting the existing management system with a mobile app for drivers, also integrating GPS, push notifications and a payment gateway for cash-on-delivery payments.

Solution

What is the difference between REST API and GraphQL?

REST uses fixed endpoints with predefined responses; GraphQL lets the client request exactly the data it needs. For most SMEs, REST is simpler, more predictable and easier to cache. We recommend GraphQL only when there are multiple clients with very different data needs.

Can I connect my ERP with the API?

Yes. If your ERP has its own API (SAP, Odoo, Holded, A3), we integrate directly. If it does not, we can create adapters that synchronise data via scheduled exports or direct database access.

How is the API secured?

We implement token-based authentication (Sanctum/Passport), rate limiting to prevent abuse, strict validation of all inputs and access logs for auditing. Everything aligned with OWASP.

What happens if an external service goes down?

We design integrations with circuit breakers, automatic retries and queues. If an external service fails, the request is queued and automatically retried when the service becomes available again.

Can the API be versioned?

Yes. We implement URL-based versioning (v1, v2) so you can evolve the API without breaking existing integrations. Legacy clients continue to work while they migrate to the new version.
